Description
In this recording of Boston's Other Voice, which aired on January 8, 1989, host Peter Stickel interviews Fred Barton - author, musician, lyricist, waiter, conductor, and juggler - about the musical show "Miss Gulch Returns!" Barton talks about his one-man show "Miss Gulch Returns!", which is about the character from "The Wizard of Oz" who is the Kansas archetype of the Wicked Witch. According to Barton, Almira Gulch represents the unpleasant, angry and grumpy person we all could be if we decided to be mad at life. Barton dresses in drag to play Miss Gulch. Barton also talks about his work as assistant conductor for the Broadway tour of Cabaret, his preference for Boston over New York City, and audience reactions to "Miss Gulch Returns!"
